Saint Uriel with Holy Spirit Torch Statue - 5.75 Tall Christian Devotional Sculpture
Uriel, the Patron Saint of the Sacrament of Confirmation, is celebrated in the Anglican liturgical calendars on the Feast of the Archangels as the Light of God. In Christian apocryphal gospels, Uriel plays a role in the rescue of Jesus' cousin John the Baptist from the Massacre of the Innocents ordered by King Herod, carrying John and his mother Saint Elizabeth to join the Holy Family after their Flight into Egypt, as depicted in Leonardo da Vinci's Virgin of the Rocks. Identified as a cherub and angel of repentance, Uriel is often portrayed as standing at the Gate of Eden with a fiery sword or as the angel who watches over thunder and terror.
Uriel is also regarded as the spirit of the third chapter of Genesis and is identified as one of the angels who helped bury Adam and Abel in Paradise. Stemming from medieval Jewish mystical traditions, Uriel is considered the Angel of Sunday, the Angel of Poetry, and one of the Holy Sephiroth. He is depicted as the destroyer of the hosts of Sennacherib, the angel who checked the doors of Egypt for lamb's blood during the plague, and the one who holds the key to the Pit during the End Times and led Abraham to the West. Uriel's highest position may be as an Angel of Presence, Prince of Presence, Angel of the Face, Angel of Sanctification, or Angel of Glory.
